Introducing My Tribe: Your Close Connections in Life

Introducing My Tribe: Your Close Connections in Life

My Tribe organizes the important people in your life, into two different categories of “Family Members” and "Close Others".

Locating your My Tribe area

You can navigate to your “My Tribe” area by locating it on your left navigation panel.

      Collapsed Navigation Panel View.

      Open Navigation Panel View.

Navigating your My Tribe views

You have three views of your My Tribe profiles:

“All” shows all profiles regardless of familial relations or lack of.

“Family Members” only shows the profiles related by genetics, adoption and marriage.

“Close Others” shows the profiles of non-related connections who are important to you and have had an impact on your life, such as colleagues, friends, mentors and community members.

Create a New Member

To create a new member click on the empty tile labelled, “Add a Family Member,” or “Add a Close Other”, depending on your preference. It is located at the bottom of the list of profiles and is located additionally in each respective view.

When creating a profile, any information you include or tag to their profile within your Legacy Room is completely private to you. Profiles you tag to content (such as Keepsakes or Recipes) will only be viewed as 'tagged' if you make that content public. To share any content with a loved one directly, you will need to share the URL independently from Heirloom's platform.

Your Tribe Members will not be notified of anything you do with their profiles in your private Heirloom account. Your privacy remains our priority.

Create a Close Other

When creating a Close Other, you can add a profile photo, their first and last name, followed by their date of birth, and (if relevant) their date of death.

Create a Family Member

If you are creating a Family Member profile in the "All" or "Family Members" views, you will be directed to the Family Tree Builder to add the relative's profile and link their relations to the family tree.

Once you're in the Family Tree Builder, start by clicking on the profile you wish to add the relation to. For example, click on your own profile to add your parent, partner or child, or to add your sibling (such as step, half or adopted siblings) you can select your parent to add the child relation to their Family Tree node.

After clicking a profile, three options will show in the top left corner; click the "+ Add a relative" button and you will have 3 types of relationships to select from: parent, child, or partner.
Depending on the type of relation, you can add the following information to a family member's profile:
  1. A profile picture
  2. First name
  3. Last name
  4. Adopted Status
  5. Place of Birth
  6. Date of Birth
  7. Date of Death (if deceased)
  8. Marital Status (if applicable)
In the case of adding a child relation, you will have an option to select a second parent profile, if applicable.

Managing Profiles & Relations

To edit or delete a Close Other, you can click on the three dots on the top right corner of their profile.
Select the pencil icon for editing or the bin icon for deleting.

When editing a Family Member's profile or relation, you will need to click on their profile in the Family Tree Builder and select the "View details" button. From there you can edit their information, edit their relations (found at the top), or remove the profile entirely.

Creating a Keepsake via My Tribe Profile

If you have a particular story you wish to document about a beloved relative or friend, you can add a Keepsake via their profile which will be tagged automatically to them. This is similar to the step after you create your Keepsake, where you can tag one or more Tribe members to that Keepsake in the enriching phase.
Please note that when you tag a profile to a Keepsake, this is only viewable for your eyes if the Keepsake is set to Private viewing. If a Keepsake is public, the member's profile will be viewed as tagged.

Click on "Add a Keepsake" via a profile in My Tribe.

Select "Add a Keepsake" via a profile in Family Tree Builder.
